Imphal, February 18: Manipur Police on Tuesday arrested a warder of Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, for allegedly facilitating the illegal use of mobile phones by inmates, including those lodged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The accused has been identified as Sahid Shah (35) of Kairang Mayai Leikai in Imphal East district. According to police, he allowed inmates to make and receive phone calls from inside the jail premises in violation of prison rules.
During the operation, multiple mobile phones and SIM cards were seized.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that financial transactions were conducted from within the jail premises through the UPI account of the arrested warder. Police suspect that inmates may have used his account for transferring or receiving money.

A case has been registered at Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district. Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the network and identify other individuals connected to the case.
