Gorakhpur, February 23, 2026: A third-year resident doctor from Nagaland posted at AIIMS Gorakhpur was allegedly subjected to racial slurs, stalking and physical assault by three unidentified men near the institute on Sunday evening.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kaustubh confirmed that a case has been registered at the AIIMS police station under relevant sections. He did not disclose the specific provisions invoked in the FIR but said CCTV footage has helped identify a motorcycle linked to the accused.
“Four police teams have been formed to track them down. Strict action will be taken once the suspects are apprehended,” the SSP stated.
The victim, a resident specialising in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, was returning to campus around 8 pm when the accused allegedly followed her for over 1.5 km before accosting her near Gate No. 2 of the institute.
According to the complaint, the three men allegedly hurled obscene remarks and racial slurs at her. One of the accused reportedly removed his shirt to intimidate her, while another allegedly touched her inappropriately. The doctor raised an alarm, prompting the trio to flee.

The National Federation of Resident Doctors of AIIMS and INIs (NAFORD) condemned the incident on social media, describing it as a case of racial harassment and sexual assault that left the resident in “deep shock, humiliation and trauma.”
The incident comes days after another reported case of racial abuse involving women from Arunachal Pradesh in New Delhi, highlighting growing concerns over safety and discrimination faced by people from the Northeast.
Police investigations are ongoing.
