Addressing officials, representatives of transport associations, and members of the public, SP Lalrinpuia Varte stressed that road safety concerns everyone, not just vehicle drivers. He pointed out that pedestrians also play a crucial role in ensuring safety on roads and urged them to remain vigilant while walking or crossing busy streets.

The SP expressed concern over the increasing use of mobile phones by pedestrians, particularly while crossing roads. He noted that distractions caused by mobile devices can lead to serious accidents and urged the public to be more attentive and cautious in traffic environments. He also appealed to motorists to adopt responsible driving habits, avoid over-speeding, and adjust their speed according to road conditions, traffic density, and location.

“Traffic rules and regulations are not meant to burden us but are designed for our safety. If we follow them sincerely, many accidents can be prevented,” he said. He further emphasized that reducing road accidents requires active cooperation between government agencies, drivers, pedestrians, and the wider community.

He urged all participants to continue spreading awareness messages within their communities and workplaces.

The event was attended by heads of government offices in the district, representatives of the Driver Association, Owner Association, and other stakeholders. Organisers expressed hope that the month-long campaign would strengthen public awareness, encourage responsible road behaviour, and contribute to a reduction in road accidents across the district.
