Aizawl, February 7, 2026: The Governor of Mizoram, Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), along with First Lady Bharti Singh, attended the State-Level Ex-Servicemen Rally held at Lammual, Aizawl, on Friday. The event was also attended by Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Vijay Kumar Singh described the courage, discipline and selfless service of ex-servicemen as exemplary and worthy of emulation. He praised members of the Mizoram Ex-Servicemen League (MESL), stating that they were among the most disciplined and respected ex-servicemen communities he had encountered across India. The Governor said the rally reflected mutual respect, trust and harmony between civilians and the armed forces, highlighting the strong bond shared between the Mizo people and the military.
The Governor noted that the spirit of sacrifice and dedication of ex-servicemen is clearly visible in their lives, recalling that many of them spent long years away from their families while serving in difficult and remote parts of the country to ensure national security. He welcomed initiatives such as medical camps for ex-servicemen and their families, and the establishment of grievance redressal mechanisms to address issues related to pensions, welfare and entitlements. He expressed hope that these initiatives would yield positive outcomes and assured continued efforts to strengthen medical and welfare facilities for veterans.
Emphasising the importance of Tlawmngaihna (selfless service), the Governor said that the Mizoram government places high priority on the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families, and called for sustained respect and support for those who have served the nation.
Home Minister K. Sapdanga, in his address, termed the rally a fitting tribute to ex-servicemen who have made immense sacrifices for the country. He said that the security and dignity enjoyed by the nation today are the result of their unwavering commitment and service, often in harsh and challenging conditions. He added that ex-servicemen continue to remain role models for society and a source of inspiration for the youth, urging young people to learn from their discipline, patriotism and sense of duty.

The programme also featured addresses by Maj Gen Inderjit Singh Bhinder, Inspector General, Assam Rifles (East), and a message from Lt Gen Abhijit S. Pendharkar, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, Corps Commander, 3 Corps. Lt Col Clement Lalhmingthanga (Retd), MLA and President of the Mizoram Ex-Servicemen League, delivered the vote of thanks. Following the formal programme, the Governor visited various stalls set up at the rally and interacted with ex-servicemen.
During the event, nine ex-servicemen, the family of one gallantry award recipient, and five Veer Naris (wives of martyrs) were honoured with commendations and assistance. Among those honoured were Padma Shri awardee Hav Lalbiakthanga Pachuau, family members of Kirti Chakra awardee Capt Lalrinawma Sailo, several retired personnel, and Veer Naris, recognising their sacrifices and contributions to the nation.
