Aizawl, February 7: The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has intensified its demand for transparency in the controversial Lengpui Airport land acquisition case, urging the state government to publicly disclose the alleged list of beneficiaries linked to compensation payments amounting to ₹117.9 crore and to facilitate a comprehensive investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The demand was made through a letter submitted by the Congress Party’s Vigilance Cell to the state government on Wednesday. In the representation, the party called upon the Chief Minister to make public all relevant details connected with the compensation paid for land reportedly acquired by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in the vicinity of Lengpui Airport.

According to the MPCC, serious questions have emerged regarding the distribution of compensation related to the land acquisition. The party alleged that while the actual landowner, Rohmingliana, reportedly received around ₹70 crore as compensation, another individual identified as Henry Lalremsanga Hlawnmual allegedly received ₹117.9 crore, despite claims that he had no legal ownership rights over the land in question.

The Congress party stated that these allegations have generated widespread public concern and raised questions about the manner in which compensation was assessed, sanctioned, and distributed. It argued that the issue involves substantial public funds and therefore requires a transparent and impartial investigation.

The MPCC further claimed that reports circulating in the public domain suggest that the compensation amount of ₹117.9 crore may have been distributed among several influential individuals. In light of these allegations, the party has demanded a detailed inquiry to determine whether any such disbursements took place, identify the recipients, and establish the dates and circumstances under which the payments were allegedly made.

As part of its demand, the Congress party has called for the publication of an authentic and verified “beneficiary list” linked to the compensation package. The party maintained that making the information public is essential to ensuring accountability and restoring public confidence in the administration.

Addressing reporters at Congress Bhavan, MPCC President Lal Thanzara said the matter concerns transparency, public accountability, and the proper use of public resources. He stated that citizens have a right to know who benefited from compensation payments and whether all procedures were carried out in accordance with the law.

Thanzara also reiterated the party’s demand that the Mizoram Government grant general consent to the CBI so that the agency can conduct an independent and comprehensive investigation into the matter. He argued that a central probe would help establish the facts and dispel doubts surrounding the controversial land acquisition case.

The MPCC president further indicated that the party is prepared to pursue legal remedies if necessary. He stated that merely demanding a CBI investigation would not be sufficient if meaningful action does not follow. According to him, the party is prepared to consult senior leaders of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and approach the Supreme Court of India if required to ensure a proper inquiry.
