The meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall in Aizawl and was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the Public Works Department (PWD), and various state government departments.
During the review, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for extending continued support to Mizoram’s infrastructure development initiatives. He noted that several proposals submitted by the state government for road improvement and highway expansion have received positive responses from the Central Government, which would significantly contribute to the state’s long-term development goals.
Lalduhoma highlighted the importance of adopting innovative and durable construction technologies for highways in Mizoram. In particular, he referred to ongoing discussions regarding the use of rigid pavement technology, which is considered more suitable for regions experiencing heavy rainfall and difficult terrain conditions. Given Mizoram’s mountainous landscape and frequent monsoon-related challenges, the Chief Minister said such technology could help improve road durability and reduce maintenance costs in the long run.
Officials from NHIDCL and the Public Works Department presented detailed progress reports on major National Highway projects currently underway in different parts of the state. The presentations covered completed sections, ongoing construction activities, project timelines, and challenges affecting implementation. Issues such as land acquisition, difficult terrain, weather-related disruptions, and coordination among agencies were also discussed.

The meeting also reviewed decisions taken during the previous highway review meeting held in September last year. Officials assessed the progress made since then and examined follow-up actions required to expedite pending works.
In addition, discussions were held on highway improvement projects in several districts and proposals awaiting approval from the Central Government. The Chief Minister stressed the need for timely execution of projects and close coordination between state and central agencies to ensure efficient implementation.
The review meeting was attended by PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Lalthansanga, Revenue Minister B. Lalchhanzova, senior government officials, and representatives of highway authorities. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to improving road connectivity, which is considered crucial for economic growth, trade, tourism, and better access to essential services throughout Mizoram.
