Walong, February 13: A massive fire broke out in Walong town of Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district on the night of February 13, causing concern among residents and prompting an immediate response from local authorities and emergency teams. The blaze, which illuminated the night sky and spread across parts of the surrounding hillsides, triggered panic in the strategically important border region.

According to officials, emergency response personnel were swiftly mobilised to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further. Firefighting and containment operations continued through the night, with authorities closely monitoring the situation. As of the time of filing this report, the full extent of the damage to property, vegetation, and infrastructure had not yet been assessed.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities have launched efforts to determine the circumstances that led to the incident. Officials stated that a detailed assessment would be conducted once the situation is brought fully under control.
Reacting to the incident, Hayuliang MLA and Minister Dasanglu Pul expressed deep concern over the scale of the fire and appealed to residents and visitors to exercise maximum caution. She urged the public to strictly follow all safety advisories issued by local authorities and avoid unnecessary movement in affected areas.
Emphasising the importance of public cooperation, Pul said the safety of human lives, property, and the fragile environment must remain the highest priority. She called upon residents to remain calm, stay alert, and support emergency personnel engaged in firefighting and rescue efforts.

Describing Walong as a region known for its pristine natural beauty, ecological significance, and shared heritage, the minister stressed the need for collective responsibility during such emergencies. She also warned that any attempt to deliberately cause harm, spread misinformation, or disrupt peace in the area would be dealt with strictly under the law.
Walong, located in India’s easternmost district near the international border, holds both strategic and environmental importance. Given its sensitive location and challenging terrain, authorities underscored the need for community vigilance and preparedness in responding to emergencies.
Residents have been advised to remain vigilant, follow official instructions, and cooperate fully with response teams as firefighting and containment operations continue.
