Manipur: Security Forces Arrest Militants, Recover Arms, Drugs and Liquor in Statewide Operations

Imphal, Ferbruaary 2: Security forces have intensified intelligence-based combing, cordon and search operations across the state to curb extortion and criminal activities, leading to multiple arrests and significant recoveries over the past two days.

Manipur Security Forces Arrest Militants, Recover Arms, Drugs and Liquor in Statewide Operations

On February 2, 2026, an active cadre of the RPF/PLA, identified as Waikhom Khellen Meitei (51) of Lambal Awang Leikai under Lamsang Police Station, was arrested from his residence in Imphal West district. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were seized from his possession.

Earlier, on February 1, 2026, security personnel arrested an active cadre of the KYKL, Naorem Nanao Singh alias Inao (34) of Tejpur Awang Leikai, Kakching district, from Mayang Imphal Konchak Makha Leikai under Mayang Imphal Police Station. A mobile phone along with a SIM card was recovered from him.

In a major recovery operation on February 2, security forces recovered a large cache of arms and explosives from the general areas of Bongmol and SL Zougam under Tengnoupal Police Station. The seized items included one AK-47 rifle with magazine, two pistols, two single-barrel rifles, 11 live rounds of ammunition, seven empty cases, three radio sets, combat uniforms, shoes, IED wires and 18 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which were safely disposed of at the spot.

Meanwhile, on February 1, two individuals - Md. Mustaque Ahmed (28) of Imphal East district and Raj Khan (28) of Thoubal district—were arrested from New Checkon Tribal Market under Porompat Police Station. Security forces recovered 15 soap cases of Heroin No. 4 weighing approximately 417 grams and a Honda Dio DLX two-wheeler from their possession.

In another operation the same day, Manipur Police arrested Yumkhaibam Jenish Singh (22) and Puthem Nanao Singh (19), both residents of Andro, from the Sugnu bazar area under Sugnu Police Station. A total of 500 litres of DIC liquor and a four-wheeler (A-Star, registration number MN-01W-9278) were seized.

Police said such coordinated operations will continue across the state to dismantle militant networks, curb drug trafficking, and maintain law and order.
