New Delhi, February 24, 2026: Manipur Chief Minister Shri Y. Khemchand Singh on Tuesday met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari at his office in New Delhi to discuss key infrastructure projects and seek greater Central support for strengthening the state's road network and improving connectivity.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Smt. Nemcha Kipgen and Shri Losii Dikho during the high-level meeting, which focused on expediting major road development initiatives considered vital for Manipur's economic growth and regional connectivity.
According to an official statement, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh briefed the Union Minister on the progress of ongoing road infrastructure projects in the state and highlighted the challenges faced in implementing several strategic projects. He emphasised the need for enhanced investment in road infrastructure to improve connectivity between the hill and valley regions, facilitate trade and transportation, and support the state's overall development.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister sought special consideration for a number of proposals submitted by the Government of Manipur. These included the construction of an elevated highway to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility, as well as the upgrading, widening, and strengthening of National Highways across the state. He also stressed the importance of timely execution of road projects to enhance connectivity with neighbouring states and improve access to remote and border areas.'

Responding positively to the proposals, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured the state delegation of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' continued support. He stated that the proposals submitted by the Government of Manipur would receive due consideration and reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to accelerating infrastructure development in the Northeast.
The meeting reflects the Manipur Government's continued efforts to secure Central assistance for modernising the state's transport infrastructure and creating a more efficient road network. Improved connectivity is expected to boost economic activity, facilitate tourism, strengthen border connectivity, and improve access to essential services for people living in both urban and rural areas of Manipur.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of close coordination between the Centre and the State Government in implementing infrastructure projects that contribute to long-term development, regional integration, and sustainable economic growth.
