Kuki-Zo Council Declares Social Boycott of MLAs Joining Manipur Government

Churachandpur, Feb 5: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) on Wednesday announced a social boycott against Kuki-Zo MLAs who have participated in the formation of the Manipur government, terming their actions a “gross violation” of the Lungthu Resolution adopted on January 13, 2026.

Kuki-Zo Council Declares Social Boycott of MLAs Joining Manipur Government

In a strongly worded statement issued by its Information and Publicity wing, the KZC said the resolution was unanimously adopted by the Suspension of Operations (SoO) groups, Kuki-Zo MLAs and the council itself, committing not to join the Manipur government in the absence of a written political assurance from both the Centre and the state for a negotiated settlement in the form of a Union Territory with Legislature under the Constitution of India.

The council alleged that by joining what it described as a Meitei-dominated government amid the ongoing ethnic conflict, the concerned MLAs had “aligned themselves with the enemy,” betraying the Kuki-Zo community and disregarding the sacrifices and suffering endured by the people.

Calling the move a serious betrayal and an attempt to undermine Kuki-Zo unity and collective political will, the KZC declared a social boycott of the MLAs concerned in all Kuki-Zo areas. The council urged the public not to cooperate or associate with them in any social, customary or public matters.

The boycott, the KZC said, will remain in force until the MLAs refrain from participation in the Manipur government and realign themselves with the collective position of the Kuki-Zo people.

The development comes at a time of heightened political and social tension in Manipur, where efforts to form a government continue amid unresolved ethnic conflict and competing political demands.
