In a press release issued on Friday, the ITLF stated that the decision was taken during a meeting held on February 12, 2026. The resolution comes in the aftermath of the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023, between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, which led to widespread arson, killings and destruction of property across Manipur.

The ITLF said it has consistently stressed the urgent need for a political settlement to prevent further violence and ensure long-term peace. According to the statement, the latest resolution was adopted solely in the interest of safeguarding lives, maintaining public order and preventing any further escalation of tensions.
