Heroin Worth ₹18.88 Lakh Seized in Mizoram; Four Arrested in Joint Operation

Lunglei, February 22, 2026: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Lunglei Police, in coordination with Assam Rifles, seized 94.42 grams of heroin from a Champhai-bound Sumo service vehicle on Wednesday evening.

Four individuals arrested in connection with the seizure of 94.42 grams of heroin worth ₹18.88 lakh in a joint Lunglei Police–Assam Rifles operation.


The joint team comprising Lunglei Police DSB and Assam Rifles conducted the operation at around 4 PM. During the search, the contraband - estimated to be worth ₹18,88,400 - was recovered. According to police sources, the heroin was concealed inside eight soap cases.

Four individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure. They have been identified as Lalthanpuii (48) of Farm Veng, Lunglei; Ruthi Sangziki (55) of Lunglei; Laltanpuii (24) of Zotlang, Champhai; and Lalhmangaihzuala (34) of Dinthar Veng, Champhai, who was reportedly driving the Sumo vehicle.

Police officials stated that the accused will be produced before the Magistrate, and authorities are likely to seek a 72-hour remand for further investigation.

The seizure marks another significant crackdown on drug trafficking in the region, as law enforcement agencies continue intensified efforts to curb the menace.
