The induction was announced by Conrad K. Sangma, President of the NPP, who extended a warm welcome to Langthasa and his supporters into the party fold. In a post on social media, Sangma described Langthasa’s joining as a reflection of the “growing trust in our vision of development rooted in respect for tribal identity, indigenous rights, and grassroots aspirations.”

Daniel Langthasa is a prominent politician from Assam’s Dima Hasao district who has been active in regional politics and community issues for several years. A former Member of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (MAC) and ex-Congress leader, Langthasa is known for championing the rights of indigenous communities, particularly under the Sixth Schedule provisions of the Indian Constitution. He is also the founder of the People’s Party, launched to safeguard tribal rights and promote people-centric governance in the hill district.

His political journey has been shaped by advocacy on issues such as indigenous autonomy, land rights, and grassroots development, earning him considerable support across different communities.

His induction into the NPP at today’s convention is expected to bolster the party’s presence in the region, particularly among tribal voters, as political alignments continue to shift ahead of forthcoming elections.
