The three-day festival, being held from February 19 to 21, celebrates spring as a season of renewal, hope and fresh beginnings. The event was inaugurated by Kaisa Rio, Lady Wife of the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Chief Patron of DDLC, who graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
In her address, Kaisa Rio expressed gratitude to the Department of Horticulture and IDAN for their support, stating that such collaborations demonstrate how institutions and civil society can work together for a shared purpose. Referring to the theme “Colours of Spring,” she noted that spring symbolises renewal and hope, and that flowers speak a universal language of joy, calmness and inspiration.
She emphasised that the exhibition is not merely about aesthetic appreciation but also about promoting floriculture, nurturing creativity and providing a platform for growers and plant enthusiasts to showcase their talent. Highlighting the economic potential of floriculture, she said that with proper training, support and market linkages, the sector could significantly contribute to income generation, especially for women and youth. She urged participants to cherish nature and recognise the dedication behind each floral arrangement.
Commissioner & Secretary, Horticulture Department and DDLC member Akumla Chuba described the event as a “comeback celebration,” recalling that DDLC had previously organised seven flower shows to promote floriculture in the state. She stated that the programme goes beyond visual appeal and seeks to celebrate biodiversity while equipping participants with practical knowledge through seminars on floriculture, dragon fruit cultivation and mushroom farming.

He highlighted that under the Chief Minister’s Microfinance Scheme, women entrepreneurs can avail soft loans and grants, and informed that IDAN, in collaboration with banks such as Bank of Baroda and SBI, is extending financial assistance to flower growers. He also mentioned that the government is exploring the establishment of a dedicated flower market in Nagaland to improve infrastructure for vendors.
The festival features 23 exhibition stalls and three food stalls, showcasing a variety of plants including bonsai, orchids, foliage, perennials, annuals, and cacti and succulents. Competitions are being held across six categories with cash prizes ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹10,000.
Daily seminars are being conducted as part of the programme: a floriculture session by Watila Longkumer on February 19; dragon fruit cultivation by Martin Joror on February 20; and mushroom cultivation by Dr. Sosang Longkumer on February 21.
With free entry for visitors and participants, the eighth edition of the flower show aims to promote horticulture awareness, encourage entrepreneurship in floriculture and provide a vibrant platform for community engagement in Nagaland.
