The initiatives are jointly organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry – Centre for Excellence on Employment & Livelihood (CII CEL) and the Government of Mizoram. They aim to strengthen MSME owners in the state and support entrepreneurs seeking to expand their enterprises.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said Mizos are widely recognized for their skills and craftsmanship, highlighting the state’s strong potential in the MSME sector. He noted that several Mizo youths won awards at last year’s IndiaSkills Competition, while Mizoram participants emerged as Overall Champions at this year’s IndiaSkills North East Championship.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing skilled youth and empowering entrepreneurs to become self-reliant. Referring to the government’s flagship Handholding Scheme, he said it is designed to create meaningful opportunities for aspiring and existing entrepreneurs.
The Chief Minister observed that MSME owners in Mizoram have built their livelihoods through determination and initiative. The newly launched project, he said, is intended to help them scale up and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving global economy that demands continuous upskilling and adaptation to modern business practices.

Highlighting the expertise of CII, he noted that CII CEL has successfully implemented similar initiatives in other states, often on a paid participation basis. Mizoram, he said, is fortunate that the Volvo Group has agreed to support the program through its CSR initiative, allowing local MSME owners to participate free of cost. He expressed appreciation to both CII CEL and the Volvo Group for their partnership.
The project aims to equip MSME owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with contemporary skills and knowledge while creating a platform for engagement with industry experts. The program will run initially for one year, with 70 participants selected for training.
The inaugural function was chaired by Pi Shalina Thapa, Executive Director, CII. Pu GV Rao, Director (CSR), Volvo Group Trust, and Pu Shivek Gurubaran, Director, CII CEL, also addressed the gathering.
