Aizawl, 12 February 2026: Minister of State for Sports & Youth Services Lalnghinglova Hmar today felicitated Mizoram athletes who won medals at the 7th Senior National Muaythai Championship 2026. The felicitation programme was held at his office at MINECO at 3 PM.

The championship was held from January 22 to 25, 2026, in Hyderabad, Telangana. A total of 11 players represented Mizoram, out of whom 10 secured medals across various categories, bringing home 12 medals - five gold, three silver and four bronze.
Congratulating the athletes, the Minister said it was a matter of great pride that Mizoram could secure such an impressive medal tally at the Senior National Championship. He noted that the medal winners are eligible for the Incentive Cash Award and encouraged them to continue striving for greater achievements in the future.
He further stated that many talented athletes often go unrecognized despite their dedication and potential to win medals at the national and higher levels, assuring that the government would continue to support and encourage them.
The Minister also announced that ₹3 lakh would be provided to the Muaythai Association of Mizoram to support the athletes’ preparation for the upcoming National Games. He clarified that the felicitation ceremony symbolized appreciation, while the actual Incentive Cash Awards would be distributed separately.

During the programme, the Muaythai Association of Mizoram presented a report on their activities and outlined their future plans and requirements.
Speaking on the occasion, Joint Secretary of the Sports & Youth Services Department Pu Dolianbuaia emphasized that winning medals should not lead to complacency, and athletes must aim higher as competition levels continue to rise.
Commissioner & Secretary of Sports & Youth Services V. Lalsangliana, officials from the Mizoram State Sports Council, and office bearers of the Mizoram Muaythai Association were also present at the event.
