Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma addresses the gathering during the inauguration of the Oil and Gas Conservation Awareness Fortnight “Saksham 2025–26” in Aizawl, promoting the message “Conserve Oil, Go Green.”

Speaking at the inaugural programme, the Chief Minister noted that India imports nearly 80 per cent of its oil and gas requirements and is currently the world’s third-largest consumer of these resources. He cautioned that excessive use of oil and gas contributes to air pollution and emissions of carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide, adversely impacting human health and causing damage to forests, bamboo, soil, and the overall environment.

Emphasising the need for conservation, Pu Lalduhoma said oil and gas are non-renewable resources and conserving them today is an investment for future generations. He stressed that judicious and efficient use of these daily necessities not only saves money but also protects natural resources.

Highlighting developments in Mizoram’s energy sector, the Chief Minister said efforts are underway to provide domestic gas pipeline connections in Aizawl, with construction progressing from Tripura. He also stated that the State Government continues to pursue enhanced oil and gas exploration beneath Mizoram’s soil, while simultaneously promoting green energy initiatives in line with sustainable development goals.
