Assam CM Inaugurates 67 New School Buildings, Lays Foundation for 61 More

Guwahati, February 2: In a major boost to Assam’s education infrastructure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday ceremonially inaugurated 67 state-of-the-art school buildings and laid the foundation stone for 61 additional schools across the state. The initiative marks a significant milestone in transforming Assam’s education landscape.

The central event was held at Sonapur Higher Secondary School in the presence of Ranoj Pegu, Cabinet Minister for Higher Education, School Education and Tribal Affairs, along with other ministers and MLAs who attended parallel programmes across various districts.

The newly inaugurated school buildings have been constructed under major central funding schemes including NESIDS, PM-DevINE, and RIDF–XXIX, while the upcoming 61 schools will be built under RIDF–XXXI. The combined investment for the projects stands at around ₹760–765 crore, aimed at creating modern, student-friendly learning environments across Assam.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ranoj Pegu said the large-scale investment reflects Assam’s emergence as a national leader in holistic education development, combining modern infrastructure with student-centric support schemes. He credited the progress to the vision and leadership of the Chief Minister and acknowledged the continued support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly through initiatives like PM-DevINE for the North East.

The government stated that the initiative will empower students with world-class facilities, encourage higher learning outcomes, and open new avenues for inclusive and transformative growth in the education sector across the state.
