The central inauguration ceremony was held at Sonapur Higher Secondary School, where the Chief Minister was joined by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, along with other ministers, legislators, senior officials, and education department representatives. Simultaneous programmes were also organised in various districts to mark the launch of the projects.
The newly inaugurated school buildings have been constructed under major centrally supported schemes, including the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE), and Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF-XXIX). The foundation stone for the upcoming 61 schools was laid under RIDF-XXXI.
Officials said the combined investment for the projects is estimated at ₹760–765 crore, reflecting one of the state's biggest investments in strengthening school infrastructure. The new campuses are designed with modern classrooms, improved sanitation facilities, laboratories, libraries, digital learning spaces, and other student-friendly amenities to create a better teaching and learning environment.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sarma said quality education begins with quality infrastructure and reiterated the government's vision of ensuring that students, irrespective of where they live, have access to world-class educational facilities.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu described the initiative as a landmark achievement in Assam's education sector. He said the state's rapid progress in school infrastructure has been made possible through the vision of the Chief Minister and the continued support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly through flagship schemes such as PM-DevINE, which has accelerated educational development in the Northeast.
Officials stated that the initiative would not only improve classroom infrastructure but also enhance learning outcomes, reduce dropout rates, and encourage greater enrolment in government schools.
The large-scale expansion of educational infrastructure is expected to strengthen Assam's school education system, promote equitable access to quality education, and empower future generations with modern learning facilities. The projects also reflect the government's broader commitment to inclusive, student-centric, and transformative development in the education sector across the state.
