Aizawl to Host First-Ever Regional Conference of Cooperation Secretaries of North East States

Aizawl, February 2, 2026: Mizoram is set to host the Regional Conference of Cooperation Secretaries of North Eastern States for the first time, marking a significant milestone in the state’s engagement with the cooperative sector. In preparation for the event, a high-level meeting was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Udit Prakash Rai, IAS, Secretary, Cooperation Department, Government of Mizoram, to review arrangements and coordinate preparations for the conference scheduled to be held in Aizawl on February 27.

The preparatory meeting took place at the Mizoram Secretariat Conference Hall and brought together officials from various departments and organizations involved in organizing the event. The conference is expected to serve as an important platform for discussing key issues related to the cooperative movement, policy implementation, and regional collaboration among the northeastern states.

According to officials, the one-day conference will bring together Cooperation Secretaries from all eight North Eastern states, along with senior representatives from the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India. The central delegation is expected to include the Secretary, Additional Secretary, and other senior officials of the ministry. The event is anticipated to facilitate discussions on strengthening cooperative institutions, sharing best practices, and addressing common challenges faced by the cooperative sector across the region.

During the meeting, participants reviewed various logistical and administrative arrangements necessary for the successful conduct of the conference. Discussions focused on the selection of the venue, accommodation and transportation for delegates, hospitality arrangements, security measures, and coordination among departments. Officials emphasized the importance of ensuring smooth execution of the event, given its significance at both the regional and national levels.

Chairing the meeting, Udit Prakash Rai informed the participants that Chief Minister Lalduhoma has already given his consent to attend the conference as the chief guest. The Chief Minister’s participation is expected to underscore the state government’s commitment to promoting cooperative development and fostering regional collaboration.

Officials noted that while the conference is currently scheduled for February 27, the final date is subject to formal approval from the Ministry of Cooperation. Preparations are nevertheless being undertaken on a priority basis to ensure that all arrangements are in place well ahead of the event.

The meeting also highlighted the need for effective inter-departmental coordination to guarantee the successful hosting of delegates and smooth conduct of the programme. Participants discussed the roles and responsibilities of different departments and agencies, ensuring that all aspects of the conference are managed efficiently.

Among those present at the meeting were John L.T. Sanga, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Lalmuansanga, State Protocol Officer, and representatives from several organizations, including the Information and Public Relations Department (I&PR), National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi), MULCO, MAHCO, MCAB, and MIZOFED.

The upcoming conference is expected to provide a valuable forum for dialogue on the future of the cooperative sector in the Northeast. Officials believe it will help strengthen collaboration among the states, promote innovative approaches to cooperative development, and create opportunities for sharing experiences and successful models.

As the first event of its kind to be hosted in Mizoram, the conference is also expected to enhance the state’s visibility in regional policymaking and reinforce its role in advancing the cooperative movement across Northeast India.
