New Delhi / Guwahati, February 13: In a major infrastructure boost for Assam, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved projects worth ₹747.72 crore for the development of roads and bridges across the state.

The sanction covers 26 projects under two central schemes - the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and the Setu Bandhan Scheme - aimed at strengthening connectivity and improving transportation efficiency.
Of the total allocation, ₹617.98 crore has been earmarked for 10 road development projects under CRIF, focusing on the upgradation of key state highways and major district roads. Another ₹129.74 crore has been sanctioned for 16 bridge projects under the Setu Bandhan Scheme, which targets bridge construction and replacement of railway level crossings to enhance safety and reduce travel time.
Announcing the approval, Gadkari said the initiatives would significantly enhance regional connectivity, facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the announcement, describing connectivity as the “engine of growth” for the state. He said the investments would ease travel, boost trade, and unlock new opportunities across Assam.
The fresh allocation comes amid ongoing infrastructure expansion in the state, complementing recently launched major projects aimed at improving connectivity and economic integration.
