The sanctioned projects include a total of 26 infrastructure initiatives under two flagship central schemes—the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and the Setu Bandhan Scheme. Together, these projects aim to enhance the state's road network, reduce travel time, and facilitate the smooth movement of people and goods.
Of the total allocation, ₹617.98 crore has been earmarked for 10 road development projects under the CRIF scheme. These projects focus on upgrading key state highways and major district roads to improve transportation efficiency and support growing traffic demands. The improvements are expected to provide better connectivity between urban centres, rural areas, and important economic corridors across Assam.
In addition, ₹129.74 crore has been sanctioned for 16 bridge projects under the Setu Bandhan Scheme. The projects include the construction of new bridges as well as the replacement of railway level crossings with safer bridge infrastructure. The initiative is aimed at improving road safety, easing traffic congestion, and ensuring uninterrupted movement along major transport routes.
Announcing the approval, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the projects would significantly strengthen regional connectivity while contributing to the socio-economic development of Assam. He noted that improved transport infrastructure would support trade, tourism, agriculture, and industrial growth by providing faster and more reliable connectivity.
