Addressing reporters after the meeting, BJP Manipur president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi said the party staked its claim in the presence of newly elected BJP Legislature Party leader Yumnam Khemchand and party observer Tarun Chugh.

“We went to the Governor House and submitted the claim for formation of a popular government in the state,” Sharda Devi said, adding that the party is now awaiting a response from Lok Bhavan.

Significantly, for the first time in nearly three years, two MLAs from Kuki-Zo dominated districts - LM Khaute from Churachandpur and Ngursangur Sanate from Pherzawl - were among the legislators who met the Governor in Imphal.
