Akashvani Kohima invites applications for Part-Time Correspondents in 11 Nagaland districts

Kohima, Feb 4: Akashvani Kohima has invited applications from eligible candidates for engagement as Part-Time Correspondents (PTCs) on a contractual retainership basis in 11 districts of Nagaland. The recruitment drive aims to strengthen grassroots news coverage and enhance the flow of information from different parts of the state to the national public broadcasting network.

According to an official notification issued by Akashvani Kohima, vacancies are available for the districts of Chümoukedima, Longleng, Meluri, Mon, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tuensang, Tseminyu, and Zunheboto. The selected correspondents will be responsible for reporting important local developments, government initiatives, public issues, cultural events, and other newsworthy activities from their respective districts.

The notification stated that applicants must possess a Postgraduate Diploma or Degree in Journalism or Mass Media. Graduates from other disciplines may also apply, provided they have a minimum of two years of journalistic experience. Candidates must be between 24 and 45 years of age as on the last date of application.

To ensure effective local reporting, applicants are required to reside at the district headquarters concerned or within a radius of 10 kilometres from the municipal limits of the district. The notification further noted that journalistic experience in difficult, remote, or border areas, particularly in the North-East region, will be considered an added advantage.

Apart from educational qualifications and professional experience, Akashvani Kohima has listed several desirable skills for prospective candidates. These include proficiency in computer applications and word processing, familiarity with electronic communication tools, and prior experience in electronic news gathering and reporting.

The selection process will consist of an interview during which candidates will be evaluated on a wide range of parameters. These include academic qualifications, professional experience, awareness of district and state affairs, knowledge of current events, understanding of government welfare schemes, familiarity with radio news formats, journalistic aptitude, writing skills, and competence in using modern communication technologies for news transmission.

The notification explained that candidates selected as Part-Time Correspondents will initially undergo a three-month monitoring period. During this phase, contracts will be renewed on a monthly basis depending on performance. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, correspondents may be offered an annual contract that can be renewed periodically based on satisfactory performance, up to the age of 60 years.

Akashvani clarified that individuals currently employed in government departments, Central or State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and members of political parties are not eligible for engagement under the scheme. This condition has been included to ensure editorial independence and maintain professional standards in news reporting.

Interested applicants have been asked to submit a duly filled application form along with a comprehensive bio-data, self-attested copies of educational certificates, testimonials, proof of residence, proof of date of birth, and a recent passport-sized photograph.

Applications must be sent to the Head of Office, Akashvani, Old Minister’s Hill, Post Box-42, Kohima, Nagaland – 797001, and should reach the office on or before February 20, 2026.

The prescribed application format requires candidates to provide details of educational qualifications from Class XII onwards, professional experience in journalism or media, computer proficiency, and their ability to transmit news electronically. Officials stated that the initiative will help expand grassroots reporting and strengthen Akashvani’s network of district-level correspondents across Nagaland, ensuring timely and accurate coverage of events from even the most remote areas of the state.
