Imphal, Jan 16, 2026: In a significant step towards fostering innovation and strengthening the state's digital ecosystem, the Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Manipur, officially launched Techsprint Manipur 1.0, a 48-hour Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based hackathon, in Imphal on January 15. The initiative aims to identify, nurture, and empower talented students, developers, and entrepreneurs with innovative ideas, while preparing them to compete on national technology platforms.
The hackathon has been conceived as a platform to encourage young innovators to apply artificial intelligence in solving real-world problems through practical, technology-driven solutions. By bringing together students, startup enthusiasts, and aspiring entrepreneurs, the programme seeks to cultivate a culture of innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving in Manipur.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by senior government officials, academicians, industry experts, and technology professionals. Nambam Deben, Director of Information Technology, formally launched the event as the Chief Launcher, highlighting the growing importance of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence in shaping the future economy and creating new opportunities for young professionals.
Speaking at the event, officials emphasised the need to equip the state's youth with cutting-edge digital skills to enable them to compete in the rapidly evolving technology sector. They noted that initiatives like Techsprint Manipur provide an ideal platform for participants to enhance their technical expertise, develop innovative solutions, and gain exposure to industry practices.
Throughout the 48-hour hackathon, participating teams demonstrated impressive creativity, technical proficiency, and innovative thinking by developing AI-based prototypes, applications, and modules addressing various real-world challenges. The projects showcased the immense talent and potential of Manipuri youth in fields such as machine learning, automation, data analytics, and intelligent digital solutions.
Experts from academia, government, and the technology industry interacted with participants, offering guidance and mentorship to help refine their ideas and improve the practicality of their solutions. The final round of Techsprint Manipur 1.0 is scheduled to conclude on January 16, when the top three teams will be selected based on innovation, technical excellence, feasibility, and overall impact. The winning teams will receive specialised training, expert mentorship, and further support to prepare them for participation in national-level innovation and AI competitions, where they will represent Manipur.
