Gyalshing, Jan 16 (IPR): Area MLA-cum-Advisor (Tourism & Civil Aviation) Sudesh Kumar Subba today inaugurated a Community Sanitary Complex-cum-Betel Shop near Dentam Bazar, marking a significant step towards strengthening sanitation infrastructure and promoting hygiene practices at the community level in Gyalshing District.
The project has been implemented through a convergence model involving the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), the 15th Finance Commission Fund, and support from Population Health Foundation of India (PPHF) under the HRDP–HDFC Parivartan CSR Initiative.
The inauguration programme was attended by APS to the Chief Minister Madhusudan Sharma, Director-cum-ADC (Development) Surat Gurung, SDM Dentam N K Karki, Zilla Panchayat Member Dinesh Gurung, Project Manager, PPHF Rajiv Kumar, Gram Panchayat President and members, along with officials from RDD and TIC Dentam, local representatives, and members of the public.
Construction of the facility began on August 5, 2025, and was completed on November 24, 2025. The project was sanctioned at a total cost of ₹6.00 lakh, with ₹2.10 lakh funded under SBM (G), ₹0.90 lakh from the 15th Finance Commission, and ₹3.00 lakh contributed by PPHF. Additional support, including sanitary pad vending machines, sanitary pad destroyer machines, sanitary items, and branding, was also provided under the HRDP–HDFC Parivartan CSR Initiative.
Addressing the gathering, Director-cum-ADC (Development) Surat Gurung emphasized the importance of convergence in achieving sustainable community infrastructure. He outlined the project’s execution, funding pattern, and operational framework, adding that responsibility for regular operation and maintenance has been entrusted to the concerned Gram Panchayat and local stakeholders to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and long-term sustainability. He further highlighted that community participation and ownership would be crucial, particularly in maximizing the facility’s utility for market users and women.
Following the programme, the Area MLA, along with concerned officials, inspected the Dentam Bazar market area, where ongoing developmental initiatives were reviewed. Several suggestions and necessary additions were discussed to further enhance the aesthetics, functionality, and cleanliness of the market area.
