Second Phase Training for Civil Defence Volunteers Held in Dimapur

Dimapur, Jan 15, 2026: The second phase of the Civil Defence training programme for Civil Defence Volunteers, Wardens and Chief Wardens was conducted in Dimapur district from January 14 to January 20, 2026, at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex near the DC Court. The week-long programme was organized by the Home Guards, Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force (HG, CD & SDRF), Nagaland, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and community resilience across the district.

The inaugural session held on January 14 was chaired by Viboto H. Sumi, Sub-Inspector, while opening remarks were delivered by M. Yingnyei Konyak, District Commandant of HG, CD & SDRF, Dimapur. The programme brought together more than 90 Civil Defence Wardens and volunteers representing Dimapur Municipal Council wards 1, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19 and 23, along with volunteers from Signal Angami Village.

Addressing the participants, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Dimapur, Litsenthung Kikon, highlighted the crucial role played by Civil Defence volunteers in ensuring public safety during emergencies. He described volunteers and wardens as the backbone of community-level emergency response systems, noting that their contributions are invaluable during natural disasters, accidents, fires and other crises.

Kikon emphasized the importance of preparedness, discipline and teamwork in disaster management. He urged participants to make the most of the training and apply the skills acquired to effectively respond to emergencies, save lives and reduce damage to property. He also stressed the need for strong coordination between volunteers, district authorities and line departments to build a more efficient and responsive disaster management framework at the grassroots level.

Throughout the training programme, resource persons conducted both theoretical and practical sessions covering key aspects of disaster preparedness and response. Topics included search and rescue techniques, first aid, emergency communication, evacuation procedures, disaster risk reduction and community support mechanisms during emergencies.

Officials said the programme aims to equip volunteers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to respond effectively to emergencies and disasters. By enhancing local capacity and preparedness, the initiative seeks to create safer and more resilient communities capable of responding swiftly to unforeseen situations.

The training concluded with a closing session, reaffirming the commitment of the HG, CD & SDRF to strengthening disaster management capabilities and encouraging greater public participation in civil defence activities across Nagaland.
