According to the notice dated January 14, the JTC condemned the vandalisation of a waiting shed in Ireng and the writing of provocative graffiti containing threats against the Ireng Naga community, including alleged threats to kill residents and burn down houses. The situation, the council said, further escalated after reports that around 30 fully armed cadres of the KNF-P were sent with the intention of executing the threats.

Citing the gravity of the incident and concerns over the safety, dignity and security of the Naga people, the JTC said it had decided to impose a ban by restricting traffic movement within areas under its jurisdiction.

As a mark of protest and non-cooperation, the council also appealed to the Naga public not to cooperate with the Kuki community in matters of trade and commerce, including the sale or purchase of essential goods, and to avoid social, economic and other forms of interaction until further notice.

The notice stated that the restrictions would remain in force until an amicable and acceptable solution is reached between the Kuki and Naga communities, ensuring peace, safety and mutual respect.

Issued from Tamenglong, the statement, signed by the General Secretary of the JTC, appealed for understanding, unity and full cooperation from the public in implementing what it described as a collective decision taken in the interest of justice and lasting peace.
