Aizawl, January 28: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) has urged authorities to reconsider the decision to discontinue publication of Top-10 rank holders in HSLC and HSSLC examinations, stressing the need to maintain healthy academic competition among students.
The demand was made during the 649th Executive Committee Meeting of MZP General Headquarters held on Wednesday. The meeting thoroughly discussed the state government’s decision to stop listing HSLC and HSSLC Top-10 achievers from the 2026–2027 academic session. MZP opined that reinstating the Top-10 list would help encourage merit, transparency, and fair competition between students and institutions.
While calling for reconsideration of the policy, MZP also suggested that instead of merely removing rankings from result sheets, authorities should review examination patterns and question-setting methods to better reflect students’ actual abilities and academic excellence.

The meeting also deliberated on the Forest Conservation Amendment Act, 2023 (FCAA). After examining inputs from its study group, MZP stated that the Act is detrimental to the interests of Mizoram and its people. The organisation urged the Mizoram Legislative Assembly to withdraw its earlier approval of the Act, terming it unsafe for the future of the state and its indigenous communities.
In another key resolution, MZP expressed serious concern over alleged procedural lapses in the recent appointment of the Finance Officer at Mizoram University. The student body termed it difficult to accept that irregularities could occur at the state’s premier higher educational institution and resolved to take necessary steps to safeguard the dignity and credibility of the university. MZP further appealed to all central institutions in Mizoram to ensure strict adherence to rules and procedures in their functioning.
MZP reiterated its commitment to protecting students’ interests, academic integrity, and the larger welfare of Mizoram through constructive engagement and timely intervention on policy matters.
