Aizawl, Jan 29, 2026: The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has announced that it will organize a protest march in Aizawl on Friday to highlight what it describes as growing public dissatisfaction with the functioning of the state government and to draw attention to a number of issues it considers to be of public importance.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Aizawl Press Club on Thursday, where MPCC General Secretary and spokesperson Lalbiakzama outlined the objectives of the proposed demonstration. According to him, the protest is intended to create public awareness and seek accountability on matters that the party believes deserve greater transparency and scrutiny.
One of the key issues raised by the Congress relates to the alleged transfer of land at Lengpui to the Indian Air Force during the tenure of the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government. Lalbiakzama stated that the people of Mizoram have a right to know the facts surrounding the matter and called for full disclosure of all relevant details.
He said the Congress party would carefully examine the issue and seek clarification from the authorities concerned. If any irregularities or violations are found, he asserted, those responsible should be held accountable and dealt with in accordance with the law. Transparency and accountability, he added, are essential principles of good governance, particularly in matters involving public land and state resources.
Apart from the Lengpui issue, the MPCC also raised broader concerns relating to governance and constitutional rights. Lalbiakzama alleged that under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central Government, minority communities have increasingly faced discrimination and marginalization. He claimed that constitutional safeguards and rights guaranteed to citizens have been weakened on several occasions, creating concern among various sections of society.
According to the Congress leader, the protest march is also intended to voice opposition to what the party views as repeated attempts to undermine constitutional values and democratic principles. He stressed that protecting citizens' rights and upholding the Constitution are responsibilities that transcend party politics and are vital for maintaining a healthy democracy.

Lalbiakzama acknowledged that public demonstrations can cause temporary inconvenience to commuters and residents. However, he argued that peaceful protests remain an important democratic tool for expressing public opinion and drawing attention to issues of concern. He appealed to the people of Aizawl for their understanding and cooperation during the protest.
The MPCC maintained that the march is being organized not for political gain alone but as part of its effort to safeguard democratic rights, promote accountability, and ensure that issues affecting the public receive adequate attention. The party expressed hope that the demonstration would encourage greater transparency in governance and reinforce the importance of constitutional values in public administration.
The protest is expected to draw participation from Congress workers, supporters, and members of the public concerned about the issues raised by the party. Authorities are likely to make necessary arrangements to ensure that the demonstration proceeds peacefully and in accordance with the law.
