CM Conrad K. Sangma Briefs PM Modi on Meghalaya’s Development and Future Vision

New Delhi, January 29: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him on the State’s strong development momentum across key sectors.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted Meghalaya’s progress in economic growth, maternal health, and human development, along with initiatives aimed at enhancing farmers’ income. He also apprised the Prime Minister of major projects and plans, including the development of New Shillong City, expansion of tourism, preparations for hosting the 39th National Games in 2027, and efforts to preserve indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage.

Discussions also focused on Meghalaya’s future growth trajectory, with emphasis on sustained support for smaller North Eastern Region (NER) states. CM Sangma sought greater capital investment, enhancement of the Externally Aided Projects (EAP) ceiling, improved infrastructure, and increased fiscal empowerment to accelerate development.

The Chief Minister submitted documents detailing the State’s development progress, Vision 2032, and proposals aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat. He also thanked the Prime Minister for extending greetings to the people of Meghalaya on the occasion of Statehood Day.

CM Sangma further expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s support in advancing the national nomination of the Living Root Bridge for UNESCO World Heritage recognition, terming it a significant boost for the State’s cultural and ecological heritage.

The meeting underscored the Centre’s continued engagement with Meghalaya’s development priorities and long-term growth aspirations.
