Champhai, January 13, 2026: Mizoram Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar on Monday inaugurated the 53rd Tuipuiral Annual Sports Meet, organised by the Tuipuiral Games & Sports Association (GSA), at Lianpui Community Hall in Champhai district. The Minister attended the kick-off and spike-off programme as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister lauded the Tuipuiral GSA for its consistent and well-organised efforts in promoting sports at the grassroots level. He described the annual sports meet as highly valuable, noting that the participation of over 500 sportspersons reflected the association’s strong organisational capacity and commitment.
Highlighting the challenges of leadership, the Minister acknowledged the financial and logistical efforts involved in organising such events and praised the dedication of the organisers. He encouraged the association to continue striving for excellence in the coming years.
The Minister cautioned against mixing sports with politics and urged the public not to misuse sports platforms for political interests. He stressed the need for meaningful and well-structured sporting events and called for the inclusion of diverse sports disciplines. Encouraging athletes to explore multiple disciplines, he said such exposure could one day lead to representation and medal prospects even at the Olympic level.
Expressing appreciation for the invitation, the Minister said he found the event both engaging and enjoyable, and formally inaugurated the football competition. He also announced that the government would provide computers to Lianpui Middle School, which he said was in urgent need of digital infrastructure.
Further, the Minister distributed sports equipment to the Tuipuiral GSA and announced an increase in the annual government assistance to the association from ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000, effective from the next financial year.
The programme was presided over by Tuipuiral GSA Treasurer Pu Pamunga, while General Secretary Pu Samuel Lalrinsanga presented a brief report and introduction. The event also featured cultural performances, including solo songs and dances, along with the unveiling of team jerseys.
Among those present were Mizoram State Sports Council Secretary Pu Henry C. Lalrawnkima, members of various GSA units, village leaders, and local community representatives.
