NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Suman K. Bery Arrives in Sikkim on Official Visit

Siliguri, January 13, 2026: The Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, Suman K. Bery, arrived at Bagdogra Airport on Tuesday on an official visit to Sikkim, scheduled from January 13 to January 16, 2026.

Mr. Bery is accompanied by his spouse, Ms. Maitreyi Suman Bery, and Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog. The visiting delegation is in the State to participate in a workshop titled “Frontier State Development Workshop: Focus on North East,” which will deliberate on development strategies and policy frameworks for frontier and North Eastern States.

During the four-day visit, the delegation is expected to attend a series of official meetings and programme-related engagements focusing on development planning, policy initiatives, and collaborative approaches to accelerate inclusive growth in the region.

On arrival, the dignitaries were accorded a warm reception by senior officials, including Ms. Sharmistha Pradhan, Additional Secretary, Home Department, Bagdogra Unit; Mr. Sonam Zangpo, Assistant Director and Liaison Officer; and Ms. Awkwanama Subba, Under Secretary, Home Department, Gangtok and Liaison Officer, along with officials from the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) and Tourism Information Centre (TIC), Bagdogra Unit.

The visit underscores NITI Aayog’s continued engagement with North Eastern and frontier States to strengthen development planning and policy coordination.
