Mizoram Becomes First North East State to Host Girls in Aviation Day 2026

Aizawl, Jan 29, 2026: Mizoram achieved a significant milestone in promoting gender inclusion and career opportunities in the aviation sector by becoming the first state in Northeast India to host Girls in Aviation Day 2026. The event, jointly organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Women in Aviation India (WAI), was held at the Mini Theatre, Lianchhiari Run, on January 29.

The programme brought together students from high schools and higher secondary institutions across Mizoram, providing them with an opportunity to learn about the aviation industry and interact with professionals working in the field. The event aimed to inspire young girls to explore careers in aviation and related sectors, while also promoting greater participation of women in an industry traditionally dominated by men.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Vanlalthlana, Mizoram’s Minister of State for School Education, emphasized the strategic importance of Mizoram in India’s expanding regional aviation network. He highlighted the growing role of air connectivity in driving economic development, tourism, trade, and employment opportunities in the Northeast.

The Minister stressed that unlocking the full potential of the aviation sector would require coordinated efforts among government agencies, educational institutions, industry stakeholders, and professional organizations. He encouraged students to pursue careers in aviation and related technical fields, noting that the industry offers diverse opportunities ranging from piloting and engineering to air traffic management, airport operations, and aviation administration.

Throughout the programme, participants attended expert sessions, presentations, and interactive discussions focusing on emerging trends, technological advancements, and career pathways in aviation. Industry professionals shared their experiences and insights, providing students with a better understanding of the skills, qualifications, and dedication required to succeed in the field.

Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of creating awareness and providing mentorship opportunities to encourage more young women to enter aviation-related professions. They noted that initiatives such as Girls in Aviation Day play a vital role in breaking stereotypes, building confidence, and promoting gender diversity within the industry.

Lalchhanhimi, Executive Officer of CII, said the event reflected the organization's commitment to fostering aviation-led development in the Northeast and creating opportunities for young people to engage with one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country. She emphasized that increased participation of women would contribute to a more inclusive and innovative aviation industry.

Representatives of Women in Aviation India reiterated their commitment to empowering women through awareness programmes, networking opportunities, leadership development, and mentorship initiatives. They encouraged students to dream big and consider aviation as a viable and rewarding career path.

The programme featured addresses by several distinguished guests, including Rakhi Puri, Secretary of Women in Aviation India, Radha Bhatia, President of Women in Aviation India, Meenakshi Dua and Sana Mudeer, members of the organization, and Dr. Lalrintluanga Jahau, Chairman of the CII Mizoram Council.

Participants described the event as informative and inspiring, noting that it exposed them to career possibilities they had not previously considered. Organizers expressed hope that the programme would encourage more girls from Mizoram and the Northeast to pursue education and careers in aviation.
