Micro-Irrigation Awareness and Distribution Programme Held in Denchung PMKSY Cluster, Poklok GPK

Namchi, January 31, 2026: In a significant step towards promoting sustainable agriculture and efficient water management, the Agriculture Department of Namchi organised an Awareness-cum-Distribution Programme on Micro-Irrigation (MI) Systems under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Per Drop More Crop (PMKSY-PDMC) at the Denchung PMKSY Cluster in Poklok Gram Panchayat, Namchi district, for the financial year 2025–2026.

The programme was aimed at creating awareness among farmers about the benefits of modern micro-irrigation systems, encouraging the adoption of water-efficient farming practices, and improving agricultural productivity while conserving precious water resources.

The event was graced by Babita Limbu, General Secretary of Nari Shakti State Level SKM Party, as the Chief Guest. She was joined by Phurden Lepcha, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Hon'ble Minister, Panchayat members of Poklok GPU, Mukesh Dahal, Block Development Officer (BDO), Jorethang, Arbin Majhi, Agriculture Development Officer (ADO), Jorethang Block, along with officials and staff of the Agriculture Department and local farmers.

A major highlight of the programme was the distribution of 1,000-litre poly tanks to 127 beneficiaries under the PMKSY-PDMC scheme. The tanks will support the installation and efficient operation of micro-irrigation systems, enabling farmers to optimise water use, reduce wastage, and improve crop yields. Officials said the initiative would help farmers cope with changing climatic conditions while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasised the importance of adopting modern irrigation technologies such as drip and sprinkler systems, which ensure that water reaches crops more efficiently while minimising losses. They also highlighted the role of micro-irrigation in increasing farm productivity, lowering input costs, and enhancing farmers' incomes.

The awareness programme also provided participants with information on the objectives and benefits of the PMKSY-PDMC scheme, encouraging greater participation in government-supported agricultural initiatives. Officials reiterated the department's commitment to strengthening water conservation measures and supporting farmers through technology-driven interventions.

The successful implementation of the programme marks another important milestone in Namchi district's efforts to promote climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable water management, and long-term rural development while contributing to the broader goals of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana.
