Meghalaya Govt Signs MoU with Amazon India to Boost MSME Market Access

Shillong: The Department of Commerce and Industries, Meghalaya, Government of Meghalaya, signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon India on January 16, 2026, marking the first collaboration between Amazon and any state government department in Meghalaya.

The MoU was signed at the Directorate of Commerce and Industries and aims to strengthen market access for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the state. Following the signing, the Amazon team conducted a workshop for over 100 MSMEs, where participants were introduced to Amazon’s Karigar and Saheli initiatives, which focus on promoting artisans, weavers, and women entrepreneurs.

The department encouraged local MSMEs to register on the Amazon platform to enhance product visibility and expand market reach beyond the state. It also assured handholding support at the artisan level to facilitate onboarding and long-term business collaboration with Amazon.

The event was attended by Sarita Tiwari from Amazon; F. Sutgna, Director of Commerce and Industries; M. L. Wanshnong, Joint Director; and Meghalaya Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation (MHHDC) Managing Director Daphiraline Kharjana, along with members of the RAMP SPIU and other officials.

Speaking on the occasion, officials said the partnership is expected to generate long-term value for Meghalaya’s MSMEs by significantly improving access to national and global markets.

The MoU has been signed under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance Scheme (RAMP) of the Ministry of MSME. As part of the agreement, the MHHDC will manage key business operations on the Amazon platform, including product listings, cataloguing, and pricing, ensuring smooth integration of Meghalaya-based products into the e-commerce ecosystem.

Officials described the collaboration as a major step towards empowering local artisans and MSMEs and strengthening Meghalaya’s presence in digital commerce.
