Manipur’s Linthoi Chanambam Named Best Judoka at Junior National Judo Championships

Kolkata, January 30: Manipur’s rising judo star Linthoi Chanambam continued her golden run by clinching the gold medal in the girls’ 63 kg category and being adjudged Best Judoka (Girls) at the Junior National Judo Championships, held in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Linthoi delivered a composed and consistent performance throughout the tournament, dominating her bouts on the mat to secure top honours once again. Her technical precision and mental strength stood out, earning her both the championship gold and the Best Judoka title.

At just 19 years old, Linthoi Chanambam has already scripted history for Indian judo. She became India’s first-ever medalist at the Judo Junior World Championships, winning a bronze medal in the women’s 63 kg category at the event held in Lima, Peru, after defeating Netherlands’ Joni Geilen.

Earlier, Linthoi had also created a landmark moment by winning the gold medal at the 2022 World Judo Cadets Championships in Sarajevo in the women’s 57 kg event, making her the first Indian to win a medal at any World Judo Championships across age categories.

Her achievements further include a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Cadet Championships and bronze medals at the 2021 Asian Junior and Cadet Championships, firmly establishing her as one of India’s most promising judokas.

With her latest national triumph in Kolkata, Linthoi Chanambam continues to raise Manipur’s and India’s profile on the international judo stage.
