Aizawl, January 30: Mizoram is set to script a historic chapter in professional boxing as it prepares to host its biggest-ever international boxing event, “King of the Hills,” on May 1, 2026, at the MSSC R Dengthuama Indoor Stadium, Aizawl.

The landmark event is being organised by Grassroot Boxing Promotions in association with Crown Boxing Promotions, marking a major milestone for the growth of professional boxing in Mizoram and the wider Northeast region.
The highlight of the evening will be a prestigious WBC Asia Championship bout, featuring some of Mizoram’s top boxing talents. Fighters such as Laldinsanga, F. Zoramchhana, and Vanlalawmpuia, popularly known as “The Animal,” are expected to compete alongside international opponents and rising stars of the sport. Organisers revealed that negotiations are underway to rope in a French boxer for the WBC Asia title fight, though the final opponent is yet to be confirmed.
In total, 16 bouts have been scheduled for the night, spread across the Preliminary Card and the Main Card, promising an action-packed spectacle for spectators at the venue as well as viewers watching online.

Speaking ahead of the event, promoter Mujtaba Kamal expressed strong confidence in Mizoram’s boxing future. “We see tremendous potential and passion for boxing in Mizoram. Our aim is to contribute meaningfully to the sport’s growth here, and we are hopeful that Mizoram will produce a world champion in the coming years,” he said, while also appealing to local fans for their support.
The event is expected to provide a major platform for local boxers to showcase their skills on an international stage, further strengthening Mizoram’s reputation as a powerhouse of boxing talent in India.
Widely seen as more than just a sporting contest, “King of the Hills” is being hailed as a statement moment for professional boxing in Mizoram, signalling the state’s growing presence on the global boxing map.
