Imphal, Jan 15, 2026: Security forces and Manipur Police carried out multiple operations across the state on Tuesday, leading to arrests linked to an explosion case, militant activity and drug smuggling.

In a significant breakthrough, police arrested Pukhrambam Bimol Meitei alias Inaobi (41) of Wangoo Sabal Mayai Leikai, Kakching district, from Lamphel Sana Keithel under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district. He is the second accused arrested in connection with the fuel station explosion at Moirang Thana Leikai, Bishnupur district, which occurred on January 8, 2026. Investigators said the accused acted as an accomplice in the blast. Further investigation is underway.
A substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from his possession, including one SMG carbine with four magazines and 107 live rounds, a 9 mm pistol with five live rounds, two high-explosive hand grenades with two detonators, and a Honda Activa two-wheeler.
In another operation the same day, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG). The arrested militant was identified as Ningthoukhongjam Sushil Singh alias Kangla alias Ishingchaoba (47) of Langthabal Kunja Mamang Leikai. He was apprehended from his locality under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district.
Meanwhile, in a separate anti-narcotics operation, security forces recovered 54 grams of WY tablets from a house at Kairang Masjid Maning under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district. The house owner, identified as Md. Bashir (39), a suspected drug smuggler, and his wife Sajida (33) were not present during the search. Police also seized a Hero Honda Glamour two-wheeler (MN-01D-1786) from the premises.
Police said searches are ongoing to trace the absconding suspects in the drug case, while investigations continue in all three matters as part of intensified security and law enforcement measures across Manipur.
