In a joint statement issued on Monday, the two organisations expressed deep concern over reports that members of the Rajasthan Wushu team were allegedly detained and extorted at gunpoint while in Manipur. Describing the incident as “very unfortunate,” the UPF and KNO said such acts are unacceptable and go against the values of the local community.
The organisations asserted that Kuki groups operating under Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreements with the government would not indulge in criminal activities such as harassment or extortion. They further claimed that the Kuki people have never engaged in targeting or mistreating visitors to the region.
“We would rather extend our warm welcome to visitors,” the statement said, adding that the organisations sympathise with the Rajasthan Wushu team over the alleged treatment they faced during their stay.

The condemnation comes amid claims by team members and their families that the players were detained and extorted by armed Kuki groups. A video circulating on social media shows the father of one of the players alleging that the team was held at gunpoint and money was forcibly taken from them.
Reiterating their stand, the UPF and KNO condemned the incident and wished the Rajasthan Wushu team success in their future competitions, while calling for truth and clarity regarding the allegations.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over the safety of sportspersons and visitors participating in national-level events in Manipur, prompting calls for thorough investigation and accountability.
