Kohima/Imphal, Jan 29, 2026: The All Inpui Students’ Union (AISU), Inpui Naga Women’s Union (INWU) and Inpui Naga Youth Organisation (INYO) have sought a detailed clarification from the United Naga Council (UNC) over its joint statement issued with the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on January 27, 2026.

In a joint representation addressed to the UNC President, the three Inpui Naga organisations expressed strong concern and dismay over what they termed the legitimisation of “K Songlung” as a Kuki village. They asserted that no village or settlement officially recognised as K Songlung exists in the area, nor is it recorded in government documents.
According to the organisations, the site in question consists of two farmhouses constructed in 2017 on Inpui Naga land in the Tamaphomon area, and lacks historical, customary or administrative recognition as a village. They alleged that the joint statement has created confusion and misinterpretation on sensitive issues related to land and settlement status.

The Inpui Naga bodies emphasised the need for factual accuracy, clarity and mutual consultation to maintain unity, trust and peaceful coexistence among communities. They urged the UNC to exercise due seriousness in matters concerning land and rights.
Seeking accountability, the organisations demanded a detailed explanation from the UNC regarding the basis for recognising K Songlung as a Kuki village and the rationale for endorsing such claims without consultation with the concerned tribe and legitimate landowners.
The letter was signed by Lanlung Bariam, President of AISU; Guikaba Balang, President of INYO; and Roda Inka, President of INWU.
