Garjee (Gomati), Jan 29, 2026: The two-day Lampra Wathop Festival 2026 commenced on Thursday at the Noatia Mela Ground in the Garjee area of Gomati district, with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurating the event in the evening.

Organised by the Noatia community, the festival aims to promote peace, harmony and brotherhood among different sections of society, while celebrating the rich cultural heritage and traditions of indigenous communities. The inauguration ceremony was held at around 5.30 pm, marking the formal opening of the state-level cultural event.
Earlier, addressing a press conference at the Gomati district office of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Patal Kumar Noatia, State Executive Secretary of the Noatia community, said that several ministers and dignitaries were expected to attend the event. Among those expected are Ministers Pranajit Singh Roy, Bikash Debbarma, Shuklacharan Noatia, and Tripura State Noatia Hada Choudhury Uday Singh Noatia.
As part of the opening-day programme, a colourful traditional procession was organised, featuring members of various tribal communities dressed in their customary attire. The procession began from Garjee Higher Secondary School and culminated at the mela venue, drawing large public participation.
In a message shared on social media, Chief Minister Manik Saha described the Lampra Wathop Festival as a celebration of the rich cultural heritage, traditions and unity of the Noatia community. He said such festivals strengthen social bonds and help preserve cultural roots, expressing happiness at inaugurating the 10th state-level edition of the event.
Several exhibition stalls showcasing indigenous culture, traditions, handicrafts and lifestyle have been set up at the venue and will remain open throughout the two-day festival.
The Lampra Wathop Festival will conclude on January 30, with Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma and other guests expected to attend the closing programme. Organisers said the festival serves as a platform to foster social cohesion and cultural exchange, encouraging participation from people of all backgrounds.
