Criminals Should Not Be Shielded Under Any Pretext: Kakching MLA on Rishikanta Killing

Kakching, January 24: The MLA of Kakching Assembly Constituency, M. Rameshwar, on Saturday asserted that no individual involved in criminal activities should be protected, irrespective of caste, community, group, or religion. He made the remarks while responding to media queries on the killing of M. Rishikanta in Churachandpur district.

Speaking during a spot-inspection visit of an ongoing road construction project in his home constituency, the MLA said identifying offenders in a timely manner and ensuring appropriate punishment is the responsibility of the government and must be carried out strictly without any compromise.

Rameshwar said the present Government of Manipur has demonstrated its commitment to delivering justice in the Rishikanta murder case, and that all concerned authorities are actively working to uncover the truth. He noted that following persistent demands by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), the case has now been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further investigation.

Emphasising the importance of peace and stability, the MLA said normalcy is essential for development and progress in the state. He described acts of violence aimed at disturbing peace and obstructing developmental activities as anti-social in nature.

Appealing for collective responsibility, Rameshwar urged all stakeholders, including Kuki MLAs, to cooperate in identifying such anti-social elements and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice. He said only through joint efforts can peace be restored and sustained development ensured in Manipur.
