Officials said the recruitment process has reached its final stages, with interviews and selections currently underway in Shillong for the Eastern Range and Tura for the Western Range. The recruitment drive includes appointments across multiple ranks, including sub-inspectors and constables in both armed and unarmed branches.
As part of the initial phase, 76 newly recruited sub-inspectors have already been appointed and sent for training, marking the beginning of the large-scale induction. Officials stated that appointment letters for the remaining recruits will be issued in phases, with the majority expected to assume duty by early February.
Senior officials noted that the recruitment initiative aims to address long-standing manpower shortages across police districts and battalions. The addition of fresh personnel is expected to improve policing efficiency, strengthen law-and-order management, and enhance the state’s ability to respond effectively to crime and emerging security challenges.

Authorities expressed confidence that the expanded police force will contribute to improved public safety, faster response times, and better deployment of personnel, particularly in remote and vulnerable areas of the state.
The ongoing recruitment drive is being viewed as a landmark step towards modernising and strengthening the Meghalaya Police to meet the growing demands of policing in the state.
