During the meeting, discussions focused on exploring ways to harness Arunachal Pradesh’s vast river systems as an alternative and complementary mode of transport. The Chief Minister emphasized that inland waterways could play a transformative role in connecting remote and riverine areas that often face challenges in accessibility due to difficult terrain and limited transportation infrastructure.

Khandu noted that the development of water-based transport systems could significantly enhance mobility while reducing dependence on conventional road networks. He said improved river connectivity would not only benefit local communities but also support trade, tourism, and economic activities in various parts of the state.

The Chief Minister further highlighted the potential of inland waterways to boost eco-tourism and create livelihood opportunities for local residents. According to him, river transport can offer a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative that aligns with the state's vision of sustainable development. He added that responsible utilization of river resources could help unlock new economic opportunities while preserving Arunachal Pradesh’s rich natural heritage.

Emphasising the importance of environmental conservation, Khandu stressed that any future development of inland water transport infrastructure must be undertaken with adequate ecological safeguards. He pointed out that Arunachal Pradesh’s fragile ecosystem requires a balanced approach that promotes development without compromising environmental sustainability.

The Chief Minister also observed that inland waterways could complement existing road and air transport networks, creating a more integrated and efficient transportation system across the state. Such connectivity, he said, would contribute to reducing transportation costs, improving access to markets, and supporting regional development.
