Itanagar, Jan 28: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday reviewed the potential of inland waterways in Arunachal Pradesh during a meeting with the State Transport Minister Ojing Tasing.

During the meeting, discussions focused on leveraging the State’s vast river systems to enhance connectivity, promote eco-friendly modes of transport, boost tourism, and generate local economic opportunities. The Chief Minister underscored that rivers could play a transformative role, particularly in improving access to remote and riverine regions of the State.

Emphasising sustainable development, CM Khandu said that a strategic approach to harnessing inland waterways could open new dimensions of growth for Arunachal Pradesh, while also preserving its fragile ecology. He noted that water-based transport has the potential to complement existing road and air networks, reduce transportation costs, and encourage responsible tourism.

The Transport Department was advised to explore viable models and best practices for developing inland water transport infrastructure in harmony with environmental safeguards. The initiative aligns with the State government’s broader vision of inclusive and sustainable development, aimed at unlocking the economic potential of Arunachal Pradesh’s natural resources.
