Guwahati/Davos, Jan 18: Assam has strengthened its global presence with Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma representing the state at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Switzerland. The participation marks another significant step in Assam's efforts to showcase its investment potential, economic reforms, and development initiatives on one of the world's most influential international platforms.

According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Assam, Dr. Sarma is scheduled to participate in a series of high-level discussions and strategic engagements with global leaders, policymakers, industry executives, and international organizations. The sessions will focus on critical issues shaping the global economy, including workforce development, sustainable growth, tourism, healthcare, and international cooperation.
Among the key engagements, the Chief Minister will participate in discussions on "Securing a Future-Ready Workforce for the Next Industrial Era," which will explore strategies for preparing skilled human resources for emerging industries driven by technological innovation. He is also expected to join multilateral meetings between the Government of India delegation and the leadership of the World Economic Forum to discuss opportunities for global collaboration.
Dr. Sarma will further participate in the session titled "Travel and Tourism: The $10 Trillion Blind Spot," where discussions will centre on unlocking the economic potential of tourism and promoting sustainable travel. He is also scheduled to attend the Health and Healthcare Forum, focusing on innovation, healthcare transformation, and improving access to quality medical services.
Officials said Assam's participation at WEF 2026 provides an opportunity to highlight the state's investor-friendly policies, improving infrastructure, abundant natural resources, and strategic location as the gateway to Northeast India and Southeast Asia.
