Mizoram Sees Steady Rise in Vehicle Numbers Since 2020

Aizawl, Jan 18, 2026: Mizoram has witnessed a consistent increase in the number of registered vehicles over the past five years, with an average annual addition of 29,406 vehicles since 2020, according to data released by the Transport Department.

Official records show that the total number of vehicles in Mizoram stood at 2,07,885 in 2020. This figure rose to 2,33,639 in 2021, followed by 2,55,877 vehicles in 2022, reflecting a steady upward trend.

The growth continued in subsequent years, with vehicle registrations increasing to 2,83,020 in 2023 and 3,09,832 in 2024. As per the latest figures, the total number of vehicles registered in the state reached 3,54,914 in 2025.

Officials from the Transport Department noted that the sustained rise in vehicle ownership highlights increasing mobility needs and economic activity in the state. However, they also underlined the importance of strengthening road infrastructure, traffic management, and safety measures to keep pace with the growing number of vehicles.

The data underscores the need for long-term planning in urban transport, road development, and environmental management to ensure sustainable growth in Mizoram’s transport sector.
