Itanagar, Jan 18: Arunachal Pradesh marked a significant milestone in its academic journey by participating for the first time in the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad 2026 (INMO). The national-level examination was held on January 18, 2026, at University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM).

A team of seven students represented the state, showcasing emerging mathematical talent from Arunachal Pradesh. From R.K. Sarada Mission Girls’ School, Khonsa, the participants were Puny Maying, Noni Bangyang, Rocha Rangjang, Ngunngam Wangsu, Mime Rine Pertin, and Merry Tok. Another student, Hemant Chaudhary, represented the state from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Tezu.
Education officials and academic observers described the state’s debut participation as a landmark achievement that reflects growing academic aspiration and capacity in Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative is expected to foster a strong culture of mathematics, enhance problem-solving and logical reasoning skills among students, and motivate many more to pursue excellence at national and international levels.
The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad is one of the country’s most prestigious competitions for pre-university students, serving as a gateway to international mathematics olympiads.
Results of INMO 2026 are expected to be announced between February and March 2026. State authorities and educators have extended best wishes to the participants, expressing confidence that this first step will pave the way for greater academic achievements in the years ahead.
