Guwahati, January 25: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday congratulated officers and personnel of the Assam Police, Fire & Emergency Services, and Home Guard & Civil Defence who have been awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) on the eve of Republic Day 2026.

In a message shared on social media, the Chief Minister lauded the awardees for their exemplary dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to public service. He described the honours as a proud recognition of the courage, discipline, and selfless service rendered by Assam's security and emergency response personnel.
"Assam is proud of all the awardees whose dedication and commitment to duty continue to inspire others," Dr. Sarma said while extending his heartfelt congratulations.
The President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), one of the highest honours for police personnel, was conferred upon Shri Imdadul Hussain Bora, Inspector General of Police, in recognition of his distinguished career and exceptional service.
The Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) was awarded to Superintendents of Police Pranab Jyoti Goswami, Dr. Sadeque Ali Ahmed, Ripul Das, Nabaneet Mahanta, and Saurav Jyoti Saikia. Other recipients from the Assam Police included Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Moran, Inspector Jagdish Kalita, Sub-Inspectors Parikshit Uzir and Pabin Chandra Das, and Lance Naiks Suresh Boro, Hobibur Rahman, Diganta Kumar Nath, Prasad Talukdar, and Hemadhar Borah.

From the Fire & Emergency Services, Sub Officer Bhuban Chandra Mali and Leading Fireman Nandeswar Das were honoured with the Medal for Meritorious Service. In the Home Guard & Civil Defence category, Deputy Controller Jaleswar Deka and Platoon Commander Chakradhar Barman also received the prestigious award.
The President's Medals, announced annually on the eve of Republic Day, recognise outstanding and meritorious service by personnel of police and allied organisations across the country. Officials said the recognition of Assam's officers reflects their exceptional contribution to maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, disaster response, and emergency services.
