Addressing the Indian Army’s annual press conference, Gen Dwivedi said sustained and coordinated efforts by the Army and other security agencies had helped stabilise the region. “As regards the Northeast, neutral, transparent and decisive action by security forces, along with many proactive government initiatives, has led to a marked improvement in the situation in Manipur during 2025,” he said.

The Army chief highlighted the peaceful conduct of the Durand Cup, the resumption of cultural festivals, and the renewal of Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreements with Kuki insurgent groups in September 2025 as key indicators of stability returning to the State.

Referring to developments along the eastern frontier, Gen Dwivedi said the security forces were working to shield the Northeast from potential spillover effects arising from turbulence in neighbouring Myanmar. He said a comprehensive, multi-agency security grid comprising the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and the Ministry of Home Affairs had been put in place to safeguard the region.

“In response to turbulence in Myanmar, a coordinated security mechanism is actively working to insulate the Northeast from spillover effects. With the successful conduct of phase two elections in Myanmar, engagement is expected to improve further,” he added.

The Army chief also spoke about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the Union Territory saw significant positive changes in 2025. He noted that the narrative of “terrorism to tourism” was gradually taking shape, and said security forces had neutralised 31 terrorists during the year, around 65 per cent of whom were of Pakistani origin, including those involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.

Gen Dwivedi’s remarks underscored the Army’s assessment of improving internal security conditions across multiple regions amid continued vigilance along India’s borders.
