New Delhi, January 13: Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Richard Vanlalhmangaiha on Monday met V. The meeting was held at the office of the MoRTH Secretary in New Delhi. During the interaction, Vanlalhmangaiha conveyed the concerns of the Mizoram Government, including those of Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, regarding delays in certain road projects, particularly the improvement works on National Highway-6 (NH-6).

The MP highlighted the importance of the Kawnpui–Sairang stretch of NH-6, describing it as one of Mizoram’s most critical transport corridors and a vital lifeline for the state. The highway serves as the primary route for the movement of goods, essential commodities, and passengers between Mizoram and the rest of the country. Any disruption or delay in its improvement, he noted, has a direct impact on daily life, economic activities, and supply chains within the state.

Vanlalhmangaiha urged the Ministry to ensure that the ongoing works are completed as early as possible, preferably before the onset of the monsoon season. He pointed out that heavy rainfall often worsens road conditions, causing inconvenience to commuters and disrupting the transportation of essential goods and services.

Responding to the concerns, Secretary Umashankar reportedly assured the MP that the Ministry would take proactive measures to expedite the implementation of the project and address issues that may be causing delays.

Apart from NH-6, the MP also discussed several other road development initiatives underway in Mizoram. He requested the Ministry to speed up the clearance of pending project files and ensure timely release of funds so that approved works can proceed without interruption.

According to information shared by officials of the Public Works Department, a number of major projects have already received approval following the MP’s intervention. These include Performance-Based Maintenance Contract (PBMC) works worth ₹38.22 crore for the Champhai–Zokhawthar road and ₹109.58 crore for the Lawngtlai–Zochachhuah road stretch. In addition, a one-time improvement project valued at ₹10.33 crore for the Champhai–Zokhawthar road has also been sanctioned.

These projects are expected to significantly enhance road infrastructure, improve travel conditions, and strengthen connectivity between key regions of Mizoram. Better roads are also anticipated to facilitate trade, tourism, and economic activities while improving access to services and opportunities for residents.

Officials noted that the meeting reflected the continued efforts of the state’s representatives to secure greater support for infrastructure development. With several projects moving forward, the initiatives are expected to contribute substantially to Mizoram’s long-term growth and connectivity goals.
