5th Khaozaosie Hok-Ah cum Mini Hornbill Festival Concludes at Nokhu

Nokhu, January 21: The 5th Khaozaosie Hok-Ah cum Mini Hornbill Festival 2026 concluded on Wednesday at the EAC Headquarters, Nokhu, in Noklak district, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Khiamniungan people. The festival was organised by the Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) with support from the Government of Nagaland.

Addressing the gathering as special guest, Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) president A. Chingmak Chang said the Nagaland government has opened the door for the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) by forwarding its recommendation to the Centre. Stating that the long-standing demand is now closer to realisation, he appealed to the people of Eastern Nagaland to continue prayers and extend collective support. He also urged officers posted in Noklak district to work proactively for development and called upon the public to cooperate with the administration.

Extending festival greetings, Chang expressed hope that the celebration would strengthen unity, trust and reconciliation among different tribes and communities of the region.

Festival host and local MLA P. Longon emphasised the need for mutual trust and unity within the Khiamniungan tribe and among all Naga tribes. He said tribal festivals initiated by the State government are intended to reinforce collective aspirations and promote unity among the people.

Deputy Commissioner, Noklak, Mono Khiamniungan, highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage and underscored agriculture as a sustainable livelihood option for the region.

Earlier in the programme, the Thang Range Public Organization presented a special performance featuring Poi-Poi Dong-Dong, a traditional musical instrument, while T. Lunshian Lam rendered a song titled One Movement in Time. The welcome address was delivered by KTC Executive Chairman Talamong Khiamniungan, and the vote of thanks by planning committee convenor Thiamo.

Festival highlights included traditional war cries, tug-of-war events, bow and arrow competitions, and vibrant folk dances and songs performed by men’s and women’s cultural troupes from various villages. The celebrations concluded with a bonfire ceremony, followed by Strings and Voices performances by the DGP Band, Band of Brothers, 32 Assam Rifles, and local artists, bringing the festival to a colourful close.
